On Sunday 19th May, our 8th Annual Funfest took place at Rushden and Higham Rugby Club and was, yet again, a resounding success.
Twenty teams entered the It’s A Knockout Competition, which was hosted by the usual We’re A Knockout team who are always very professional in their approach to the safety of the participants whilst making sure that everyone has a really good time. The feedback was good and teams have already asked to be included in next year’s event. After a hard fought battle the winners of the afternoon were Stephens Haulage from Luton, this being the fourth year they have carried off the trophy.
We were very happy to introduce Steve (Mr. Kinky Boots) Pateman, who presented the trophy to the winning team
As well as the It’s A Knockout Competition, there were plenty of other things going on with activities for the children including, spiderman, zorb balls, colour maze, bouncy castle, last man standing, etc., as well as trade and charity stalls, together with plenty of food outlets and, of course, the bar was open all day.
All in all, a fun day for everyone which was only dampened by a light shower at the very end of the afternoon. The purpose of the event, of course, was to raise funds for local charities and this was achieved as we raised in the region of £7,800.00. This will be split three ways as follows:
Rotary Club of Rushden Chichele, who is donating its share to NCTLC Trust (National Children’s Tumour Leukaemia Cancer Trust)
Cynthia Spencer Hospice
Rotary Round Table, who is donating their share to NAB (Association for the Blind) and NDAS (Northampton Domestic Abuse Service).
All very worthwhile causes who do incredible work for our local community.
Thanks go to all club members, Friends of Rotary, the charities, participating teams, trade stalls and the general public who attended on the day, who all made the afternoon go smoothly and ensured that everyone had a great time.
